The 2026 Nile Special National 7s Series has captured the enthusiasm of sports fans across Uganda, delivering fast-paced sevens action, high-scoring tries, and fierce regional rivalries. Organised by the Uganda Rugby Union (URU), this year’s six-leg national series features 12 core men's teams and 8 core women's teams competing for ultimate national supremacy.

Expanded Tournament Structure and Circuit Highlights

Under the 2026 theme "Tukikube. Every Stop," the series introduced a newly revamped promotional pathway, eliminating invitational teams in favor of a merit-based qualification system connected directly to regional tier competitions. Additionally, the women's core division was expanded to eight teams, reflecting the dramatic growth of women's rugby throughout East Africa.

2026 National 7s Circuit Calendar & Locations:

  • Stone City 7s (Jinja): Ruck Yard Sports Club (July 24–25) — Won by Walukuba Barbarians (Men) and Nile Rapids (Women).
  • Rujumba 7s (Wakiso): Kings Park Arena (August 1–2) — Won by Stanbic Black Pirates, completing a circuit 3-peat.
  • Kyadondo 7s (Kampala): Kyadondo Rugby Grounds (August 22–23).
  • Lawirwodi 7s (Gulu): Gulu University Grounds (August 29–30).
  • Kyabazinga 7s (Bugembe): Kyabazinga Stadium (September 12–13).
  • Kabaka Coronation 7s Grand Finale (Kampala): Muteesa II Royal Stadium, Wankulukuku.

During recent circuit legs such as the Kyadondo 7s, club depth has been put to the test as several headline stars were called up to international duty with the Uganda Emerging 7s team at the Driftwood 7s in Mombasa. This squad rotation has allowed rising young talents from clubs like Heathens, KOBs, Buffaloes, and Walukuba Barbarians to shine on the national stage.
